Police officers and law enforcement agencies continue to have their hands full with solving taxi violence countrywide.

This follows a recent incident where a 62-year-old taxi owner was gunned down in the evening of Wednesday, 05 May 2021, in Kwaggafontein.

It is said according to reports by the police through Brigadier Leonard Hlathi that on the day, the man was walking in the street with his friend, few metres away from his house in a place called Tweefontein Extension, Kwaggafontein.

That is when a group of four armed men driving in a white BMW drove by and fired shots, fatally wounding the man. They then allegedly later on made a u-turn to ensure that he is dead.

“They reportedly fired more shots at the victim who was already lying on the ground and fled the scene thereafter. Authorities were notified about the incident and a murder case was opened hence the manhunt” said Hlathi.

As a result acting Police Commissioner in the General Phahla has called on the community to help trace and arrest the suspects.

“Police call on members of the public with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact Detective Lieutenant Colonel Difaga John Malope at 0824417591, or call the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111. Alternatively, members of the public can send information via MYSAPSAPP. All received information will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous.”
