Police Officer Released on Bail after an Arrest for Transporting Dagga in Mpumalanga

Police in Mpumalanga have made a successful arrest of five suspects who were found in possession of dagga including a police constable who was also an accomplice in the act using a state vehicle.

Officials say this was after receiving a tipoff of one their members involved in criminal acts and abusing the uniform gain free pass.

“The police then received information about a Gauteng marked vehicle which had five occupants, including the driver who was wearing police uniform. Upon stopping the said vehicle, the driver produced his police appointment card identifying himself as a police officer with the intention to divert the attention of the members.”

“However police continued with their investigation where they conducted a search and found sixteen sealed bags of dagga which were stashed at the back of the vehicle” said police.

Solomon Senoamadi aged 38 (police constable), Nhlakanipho Mtshali aged 34, Hezekiah Bhembe aged 62, Thabo Gama as well as Nkululeko Thabethe both aged 25 were then arrested and charged with possession of dagga as well as defeating the ends of justice.

The dagga was estimated to be worth R 500 000.00 street value.

They were all granted R 2000.00 bail each and due to appear again in court on 23 April at Kriel Magistrate’s Court.
