Over 10K Suspects Arrested for Lockdown Regulation Violation in Gauteng

Police continue to enforce lockdown regulations nationally to curb the number of Covid-19 infection rate in the country.

Minister of Police Bheki Cele announced earlier this month that they had arrested about 17 000 people found on the wrong side of the law, before end of March since the lockdown started.

Earlier today premier of Gauteng David Makhura where there are most infections, announced that they have made more arrests lately of people who were found violating lockdown regulations.

“Our law enforcement and security agencies continue to enforce regulations and undertake anti-crime operations. So far,10 126 suspects have been arrested and 9 624 cases opened. 7 481 suspects are currently awaiting to appear in court,”said Premier David Makhura.

He said this in a press briefing where he also added that they have also managed to make more arrests of people who were found to be primary suspects of school burning and vandalism.

“I am happy to report that 54 people have been arrested for vandalising schools in Gauteng” he said.
