Just as health department have been predicting yet another Covid-19 wave, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) have reported 5 062 new Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours.
This is a number the institution hasn’t reported in a while, well over six months in the past having been reporting 1 500 cases on average daily.
Since the beginning of this season however, Health Department have been reporting cases as many as 4 000.
This now brings the total number of positive cases to 3 769 927 and 15 more related deaths were also reported in the last 24 hours taking the total number of Covid related deaths to 100 348.
The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (46%), followed by Kwa-Zulu Natal (29%). Western Cape accounted for 11%; Free State and Eastern Cape each accounted for 4% respectively; Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West each accounted for 2% respectively; and Northern Cape accounted for 1% of today’s new cases.
