Disappointing enough, Police Spokesperson Captain Nomsa Seleke said several items illegal were confiscated which included dagga, cigarettes, smoking pipes, knives, vapour with flavours, playing cards and arm belts.
Although the searches happens regularly, this one follows recent videos that were circulating on social media showing learners engaged in what they called “dagga day” at Leondale Secondary School.
The learners are seen in the said video wearing full uniform seemingly having fun.
Furious after seeing the video, Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi said he will not tolerate such behavior in his schools and vowed to deal with the culprits.
“We have said to the school governing body convene an urgent disciplinary hearing this weekend. We want to know who was selling this. We want to know who was distributing this. We want to know who is influencing our children wrongly,” he said.
As a result 36 of the said learners seen smoking were suspended pending disciplinary hearing for their actions.
