Girlfriend killer sentenced to life and maintains his innocence

A 39 years old Ngagalela Kekana who maintained his innocence throughout his trial has been sentenced life imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend, Realeboga Georgina Joels. Kekana had been in police custody since his arrest few days after the murder on 21st October 2022 at a shack they were sharing at Olievenhoutbosch, Ext 7.

The court heard that the couple had just come back home from a local tuck-shop when they started arguing before Kekana took out a gun to shoot Joels on head leading to her immediate death.

Her corpse was only discovered the following morning by a concerned neighbour after being approached by Kekana himself who told the neighbour that the now deceased Joels had been injured and left. The neighbour approached the landlord, and together they went to Joels’ shack. Upon entering, they discovered Joels’ naked body on the bed, with her head wrapped in a towel soaked in blood.

The neighbors then called the police and community members, when the community arrived at the scene, Kekana also returned. Upon his return, he was arrested and has remained in custody since.Kekana pleaded not guilty and said he was not present when the incident occurred, but his statement was not taken into consideration by Judge Masopa who also concurred with State when it said he failed to show any remorse for his actions.

Masopa also dismissed the appeal by the defense.
