Company director and accountant fined R1m

The NPA has welcomed a sentencing of company director and accountant on charges of tax evasion.
NPA Spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said that during the VAT period of March 2016, September 2017, and November 2017, the company rendered taxable services to different local municipalities and received payments of over R 5 million.
However, from the payments received the company falsified the information and submitted zero returns to the South African Revenue Services (SARS).
Following an investigation that was instituted against the company by SARS, the Duke was summoned to appear in court on in June 2021 where they pleaded guilty to the charges.
The Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court ssentencedthem, 40 years old Mabidi Livingstone Mashele, his company Hoxana Trading PTY LTD, and the company 42 years old accountant Sizakele Makgoba to a fine of R1 million collectively and a further 6 years imprisonment each.
The sentence is suspended for 5 years on condition that they are not convicted of tax evasion.
They were ordered them to pay their fines before 30 December 2022.
