Today is a first court appearance of a second suspect allegedly involved in a credit card fraud with a co-accused 30 years old Thembi Qwebu who was arrested December 21st 2020.
Mpumalanga Hawks Spokesperson Captain Dineo Sekgotodi said that the second suspect who is also a Waterval Boven Municipal employee was arrested on Tuesday, 09 March at Machado plaza.
Captain Sekhotodi said that the 27 years old suspect recently arrested conspired with Qwebu, where he reportedly supplied her with several company credit cards to enable unlawful transactions.
“The modus operandi was that she would offer to swipe the card on behalf of motorists who made cash payments at the toll gate and pocketed the cash.”
“One of the banks initiated an internal audit which established that the illegal transactions were taking place at the said toll gate. More than R100 000 has reportedly been lost through similar transactions linked to the pair” said Captain Sekgotodi.
Qwebu first appeared in the Belfast Magistrate’s Court and was released on a R1000 bail.
She is expected back in court today with the said second suspect for his first appearance.
