Sad scenes at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital after the facility caught fire on Friday.

This saw both staff members and patients being evacuated from the building and relocated to the neighbouring health facilities.

The Gauteng health department said details about the relocation of patients who have been evacuated from the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital would be revealed in due course.

It is said that the fire broke out on Friday after a storeroom for medical supplies caught fire at around 11:30 in the morning but was contained by the afternoon.

Gauteng Premier David Makhura said during his visit to the hospital earlier today that the facility will be temporarily closed for 7 days for safety precautionary measures.
