District Court Magistrate arrested for allegedly trying to fraudulently acquire drivers license

Police have confirmed an arrest of Magistrate Bonginkosi Herman Mtshali on fraud charges.

The 56 years Empangeni District Court Magistrate, appeared in the Empangeni Magistrates Court on charges of fraud, conspiracy to commit fraud, and defeating the ends of justice.

This is according National Prosecution Authority (NPA) Regional Spokesperson Natasha Kara who said that appearance of Mtshali relates to incidents that allegedly occurred between 05 April 2018 and 16 May 2018 in the Elukwatini District in the Mpumalanga Province.

“It is alleged Mtshali conspired with law enforcement officers and a medical practitioner to fraudulently procure a driver’s license” said Kara.

Mtshali’s appearance was made brief after he was granted bail of R2000 and the matter was also transferred to the Eerstehoek Magistrates Court in Mpumalanga for next appearance on 28 April 2021.
