Bystander killed picking up money during CIT heist

Police in the North West have launched a manhunt following a death of a man who was shot dead in a Cash-In-Transit heist.

It is said according to police report that the security personnel were transporting an undisclosed amount of cash on 19 December 2025, on the R510 road between Rustenburg and Northam, at Dikweipi Village outside Mogwase in the late afternoon hours around 17:00 when they were forced to take a detour after seeing a burning car in the middle of the road they were driving on.

They took a detour under the impression that it was community protest in progress. Only for them to be ambushed by a group of heavily armed men who also fired shots and injured the driver.

The suspect then disarmed one of the security officers of his 9mm pistol and ammunition before exploding the cash-in-transit van with explosives.

They were using a Toyota GD6 and a Toyota Fortuner.While they were loading cash into the vehicles, an unknown male attempted to join the robbers to pick up money, but was allegedly shot dead by one of the robbers.Investigations are still ongoing while not arrest have been made.
