Gauteng Community Safety MEC Faith Mazibuko saddened by the gruesome killing of 14 people at a local tarven in Soweto in the early morning hours of today.

Mazibuko said she doesn’t understand the possible motive that led to the killing of the said victims.

“When I got there the forensic pathologists had not yet removed the rest of the bodies. They were still strewn on the floor and you could see that others were trying to run away and ended up pushing one another causing a stampede.”

“Others were still strewn on the road and obviously, because the pathologists are busy, only family members were allowed in to identify their loved ones. Most of them were still not yet covered and you could see their wounds.”

Mazibuko said that eyewitnesses said that the suspects were occupying a quantum and started shooting randomly after arriving at the scene leaving many dead and helpless and others injured.

She also said that they cannot say that the shooting had anything to do with robbery because nothing was taken at the tarven.
