EFF’s Marshall Dlamini found guilty for assault and malicious damage to property

The Cape Town Priority Court has handed down a suspended sentence to Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) MP and Secretary General Marshall Dlamini.
The 47 years old Dlamini was charged with assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) and malicious damage to property on a matter that occurred in February 2019 in the National Assembly.
In February 2019 the accused, Marshall Dlamini, assaulted a member of the SAPS in the foyer of the National Assembly after the State of the Nation address by the State President.
The case was allocated and investigated by Detective Captain Rean Naicker attached to Western Cape Crime Detection Services. Upon completion of the investigation in May 2019 the Director of Public Prosecutions decided to prosecute the accused in the Cape Town Priority Court. Miss Marcel Malgas was appointed as the prosecutor.
“The lengthily trial culminated in the accused being found guilty of the mentioned charges on 12 April 2024.”
On Assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH), he was given 18 Months direct imprisonment, which was suspended for five years.
While count 2, malicious damage to property he was slapped with a R6000.00 fine.
He was further declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Both sentences are on condition he does not commit the same or similar offence during the period of suspension.
