Two life sentences for two police murder

The High Court sitting the North West province has found two men aged 46 and 34 guilty of the murder of an off duty police officer.

NPA Spokesperson in the Povince Henry Mamothame said that a multi-disciplinary team which consisted of Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation together with members of Local Criminal Record Centre, Detective Services, K9 Unit among others launched a manhunt followed the murder of their member, 26 years old Constable Thato Mokhoana who was killed on July 29, 2020.

The deceased’s vehicle was found torched at Majemantsho village. One suspect was arrested 5 days later additional suspects were arrested days later.

They were found in possession of the deceased’s properties which included cell phones.

Investigations by the police later found that other suspects only got included that crime because the 34 years old Gontseone Chiwawa Maseng sold them Mokhoana’s cell phones. As a result of their confessions, charges against them were dropped.

Maseng confirmed their statements and also said he was present when the 46 years old Magano Clouphus Tsatsi shot the constable dead.

“The team proceeded to Tsatsi’s house at Majemantsho village where they recovered a 9mm service pistol, ammunition and handcuffs belonging to the deceased. The accused was arrested later that day with his son, when police raided the house again and found the duo hiding outside their neighbour’s house. The charges against his son were later dropped.”

“Tsatsi and Maseng were released on R 3000.00 R 2000.00 bail respectively and made series court appearances until ultimately being found guilty” said Mamothame.

They sentenced to life sentence each for murder and fifteen years for robbery with aggravating circumstances.
