Warrant Officer gets 6 years sentence for demanding money to make dockets disappear

Hawks Head in Limpopo province, Major General Thobek Jozi has welcomed the sentencing of for police officer in the province, Warrant Officer Tlabo Maputla for corruption charges.

The 54 years old former officer who was stationed at SAPS-Westerburg as a detective was arrested by the Hawks for demanding money from accused suspects who were arrested on several charges.

It is said that he benefited about R 11 900.00 from suspects which he demanded money from to make their dockets disappear.

The said suspect who arrested on drug related charges then started complaining when he [Maputla] started coming back for more.

As a result he was arrested on October 13, 2020.

Following his arrest and several court appearances, the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court sitting in Polokwane has on 11 March 2022 sentenced Maputla to 6 years imprisonment of which 2 years are suspended for 5 years on condition that he is not found guilty on similar offences during the period of suspension.
