South African Swimmer Ronald Schoeman Banned for Testing Positive of Doping

The International Swimming Federation (Fina) made an announcement on Thursday that the former world record holder and Olympic gold medallist Roland Schoeman has been suspended for doping.

The federation said that the 39 years old tested positive in May 2019 for a prohibited product from the family of hormonal and metabolic modulators.

Schoeman won gold in the 4×100 freestyle relay at the 2004 Athens Games plus individual silver and bronze medals in the 100 and 50m freestyle. He also competed in the 2000, 2008 and 2012 Olympics.


He will be suspended for a period of a year.
