Son arrested for raping and assaulting his mother

A 32 years old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for physically and sexually assaulting his biological mother.
The NPAs Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said that the offences were committed in the Nseleni area near Empangeni where the complainant and the accused lived on the same homestead, occupying separate rondavels.It is said that on the evening of 01 December 2024, the mother was lying in bed with her minor granddaughter when the accused knocked on her door.
Upon opening it, the accused began shouting at her, accusing her of speaking about him to other people. Despite her denial, he made threatening remarks and proceeded to undress before physically assaulting her by slapping and punching her. He then forced her onto the bed and raped her, in the presence of the minor child.
Sh only managed to safely escape together with the little girl when she asked the perpetrator to go outside where the young girl also followed her and they found refuge at the neighbour’s house.
In telling the neighbour about the incident, she omitted the sexual assault part out embarrassment but later cried out to a relative about the full story.
She was rushed to police station to open a case and was later referred to the Ngwelezane Thuthuzela Care Centre (TCC) for medico-legal assistance.At the time, the accused used had escaped by was later apprehended by his cousins who handed him over to the police.
The life sentence was also added with 10 years on top to be served concurrently.
