The NPA has managed to secure a maximum sentence for a facebook serial rapist who had been targeting vulnerable unsuspecting victims for over a year.

Spokesperson for the NPA Monica Nyuswa said that the incidents occurred between July 2020 and December 2021 in and around Acornhoek.

The 49 years old Ben Mdluli would get his suspects from Facebook under false pretenses of finding them work at lodges and guesthouses.

He would arrange a meeting with them and offer to accompany them, as and when they arrive at an agreed place.

“On arrival he would tell the victims that the work vehicle is busy transporting staff members and they needed to walk, taking a shortcut through the bushes.”

“In the bush, he would threaten them with a knife and rape them.  He injured one victim on her four fingers by cutting her in the hand with the knife during a struggle for the knife. He robbed two of the victims of R200 cash and cellphones to others” said Nyuswa.

But he was later on arrested and positively linked to the said crimes through DNA match even though he denied ever committing those crimes.

The Graskop High Court convicted and sentenced him to life plus 75 years in prison.
