[Read] Pankop Traditional Council’s official statement following Cogta MEC’s visit on chieftaincy disputes

Following a commission report by Cogta MEC in Mpumalanga Mandla Msibi on chieftaincy disputes, the incoming Bakgatla Ba Mocha-Ba Maloka traditional council released a statement welcoming the findings on the report.

“Today marks a watershed moment in the history of the Maloka Royal Family in Pankop Masobye village, as a long-standing chieftainship dispute is finally resolved, with the announcement of Sello Harries Maloka as the rightful Kgosi of the Bakgatla Ba Mocha- Ba Maloka community.”

“The MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in the Mpumalanga Provincial Government, Hon. Mandla Jeffrey Msibi, made the announcement in a meeting with the Maloka Royal family to discuss “the implementation of the report of the Commission on Traditional Leadership Disputes and Claims (CTLDC), in relation to the Bakgatla Ba Maloka Traditional Leadership”.

“Kgosi Harries Maloka and the entire Royal Family take this opportunity to thank the community for their unwavering support during the difficult times. His vision remains to build a united and prosperous community whose primary objective is to ensure that the present and future generations benefit from the inheritance of our forebears.”

“Kgosi Harries Maloka and his family also wishes to express their profound appreciation to Hon. MEC Msibi and the government of the Mpumalanga Province under the leadership of Hon. Refiloe Mtsweni-Tsipane for taking the much-awaited action to resolve this long-standing chieftainship dispute. He further looks forward to forging a mutually-beneficial partnership with the provincial government and the Provincial House of Traditional Leaders under the chairship of Inkhosi Sandile Ngomane.”

“Kgosi Harries Maloka and the Royal family would like to inform the community that all the necessary measures to implement a smooth transition, including traditional protocols have commenced. “As we embark on this journey together, we are mindful of the difficult circumstances under which we live related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, we urge all of you to remain vigilant and to adhere to all the necessary protocols announced by the President of South Africa, H.E. Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa. We also encourage our people to support the government’s vaccination programme.”
