Nokaneng Traditional Council said that they have sent letters to leaders of different Ditrupa leaders to inform them that they should desist from any gathering this year to respect the President’s call ordering people to stay away from large gathering to avoid Covid-19 spread.
This is also as the country records daily infections of over 14 000 new infections for the past week.
It is during this time of the year where place like Nokaneng and other neighbouring communities would have entertainment from Ditrupa with an attendance of tens of thousands of people coming to watch.
Which could be another spreader of the virus.
The Barolong Ba Lefifi Traditional Council organiser Mr Mphake said that they had to seek clarity and advise from the relevant authorities to find out if it would be a good or bad idea to go ahead.
“We wrote a letter as the traditional council and together with the leaders of Ditrupa to health department and South African Police Services and they told us that Nokaneng poses a thread because it also has a potential of being a hotspot for the virus, they then advised us to rather postpone to 2021.”
“We sent out copies of the response so leaders can readout to their organisation.”
“The gathering is officially postponed and should they decide to gather on their own, the traditional council urges the law to act because we are not involved” he added.
Mpumalanga is currently sitting at 34 723 total cases, accounting for 3,5% of the national total number.
Nokaneng is under Dr J.S Moroka Local Municipality which has less than 500 total Covid-19 cases.
