Police officer remains in custody for murder of ex-wife

A case against 39 years old police officer has been postponed to April 21st for formal bail application pending further investigations.

It is that the officer Jonnas Tebogo Mpete who was stationed at Rapid Rail station in Silverton went to his ex-wife’s work place who was also pregnant at the time and started firing several shots at the deceased and later on handed himself over at Brits Police Station on the same day, April 5th, 2023.

The 35 years old deceased Ntombizodwa Khumalo was working as a switchboard operator at the entrance of the said hospital.

NPA Spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said Mpete through his attorney, told the court that he has a previous conviction of corruption, and is awaiting a sentence at Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on 19 April 2023.

It was also brought to the attention of the court that the ex-wife obtained a protection order against the accused in 2021.
