Man jailed for attempting to bribe SIU investigator

A man who attempted to bribe an SIU investigator to make a case disappear is set to spend 4 years in prison.

Hawks Spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale said that Sipho Mapalala was trying to save his sister who had a case relating to the Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) against her and she was also at the employment of the Department of Public Works in Mpumalanga at the time.

He made an appointment with the said investigator, they made a deal and they met. Upon coming back to the investigator with the bribe money, he was arrested and a further R 63 600.00 was found in his possession.

He pled guilty and was convicted on January 2023 to be sentenced in April 2023 to 4 years direct imprisonment without an option of a fine.
