“Only passengers will be allowed into airports, with sanitation and social distance measures in place at all times.”
These are the words said by Roads and Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula late Saturday night during a briefing as we approach level 3 lockdown.
Minister Mbalula said because of certain privileges enjoyed by the planes, they will be allowed to be filled to capacity for business travellers, and this is due to the effectiveness of air filters on commercial aircraft.
However, only selected airports will be allowed to operate and only boarding passengers will be allowed to enter the terminal points.
“No accompanying members of the public will be allowed inside the terminal buildings.”
“ACSA will ensure effectiveness of the sanitization process before entering the terminal buildings, which may result in the number of entrances being reduced.”
Gautrain will resume its airport service, while Metrorail commuters will have to wait till July for the resumption of their train services.
The minister also added that no mask no entry.
