Mpumalanga Education MEC Mr Bonakele Majuba is set to pay Thufane Secondary School in Nokaneng a visit on Monday as part of his School Support Visits in the province.

In a media statement released by the MEC’s office through Jasper Zwane, the MEC said that Thufane managed to register 72.4% pass rate in the 2020/21 matric results which is said to be a 20% decline from the previous year.

The school has recently been dropping in results having registered 83.9% in 2017, 93.% 2018 and 92.5% in 2019, huge drop in 2020 as a result of the global pandemic, Covid-19.

MEC Majuba said that they are concerned by the drop in performance and an intervention need to be made.

“Notwithstanding the challenges brought by Covid-19 pandemic, the Department is concerned about the decline in the performance of this school hence this visit” said the MEC.
