The African National Congress (ANC) top six is set to meet today (Monday) as calls for schools to be closed intensifies.
Various unions, political parties, parents as well as Congress of South African Students (Cosas) have been calling for schools to be shut down until it is safe to reopen.
Sadtu is also one of the unions that have vowed to close down schools fearing for their member’s safety from Covid-19.
These utterances were responded to by the Department of Basic Education who said the decision to open schools was based on an advice they were given experts.
They Council for Education Ministers (CEM) said legal actions will be taken against anyone who disrupts school operations.
“The decision for schools to be closed or opened remains with the cabinet” said Minister Angie Motshekga.
