Mother and co-accused remain in police custody

Estimated reading time: 3 minute(s)

A 32 years old mother, Keneilwe Shalaba together with her co-accused, a 50 years old sangoma, Sebokoana Khounyana are set to remain in police custody after being arrested earlier this year on charges of premeditated murder and human trafficking among others.

The young mother made headlines late last year after making false police report on November, 10, 2024 about her 2 years old daughter being stolen men unknown to her.

Following thorough police investigations, it was found that the mother instead initially went to Khounyana to help her kill the daughter because she was tired of lying about the baby’s gender to her family.

She had told them that the baby was a boy. After failing to convince him to help her, she fed the baby a poison and went back to Khounyana so he can help her get rid of the corpse.

They buried her in a shallow grave at Waterpan. The corpse was found after a confession made by the sangoma who took the police to the crime scene following his arrest on May 29th, 2025.

The matter was postponed to August 6th, 2025 following several brief court appearances.
