Gauteng accounts to 59.22% of 16 078 confirmed latest Covid-19 cases

South African Health department is still struggling to keep up with the spike in the daily Covid-19 infections as numbers continue to record five digits cases having confirmed more than 16K cases.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) have now reported a record of 16,078 new COVID-19 cases that have been identified in South Africa.
This brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 1,877,143.
NICD said that the increase represents a 24.5 % positivity rate. Adding to the number of fatalities a further 148 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 59 406 to date.
NICD said this new number of positive cases is the new record high in the past few months.
Gauteng is still regarded as the hotspot accounting to 59.22% of the daily cases, 9 521 of the 16 078 cases.
An increase of 607 hospital admissions have also been reported in the past 24 hours.
