Former SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng once said that cameras can have a huge effect on how people behave when ever they receive media attention.

This was supported by the ANC Chairperson Gwede Mantashe who said the Secretary General of the governing party, ANC who ended up over sharing internal party discussion that are not meant for public about the former President Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla case which went all the way to the Constitutional Court.

“We defended Zuma even when we were not supposed to. Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng told him [Zuma] in a judgement that he was not fit to hold office.”

“We said a swimming pool is a fire pool, even our Police Minister was sweating trying to explain this thing.”

When asked if it was true that the party defended Zuma, Mantashe said that was an internal party discussion and Mbalula got carried away.

“He saw your cameras and he got taken away and said things he shouldn’t have said. To me, this is what we need to deal with internally. When you lead, you count your words so that you don’t catch fire,” says Mantashe.

“He will learn in the trade, and he was just excited and said things he should not have said. As a leader, you must count your words so that you don’t catch fire. But he will learn,” added Mantashe.

This was the second time a senior party official expressed dissatisfaction about the conduct by Mbalula. Party veteran Mavuso Msimang also called him out late last year before handing over his resignation from the party.
