Five years later while South Africa is still trying to figure out Shepherd Bushiri’s dramatic escape from South Africa in November 2020, a court has finally ordered for him and his wife to be returned back to the country.
This is according to a local reputable news outlet in Malawi who also said that the Chief Resident Magistrates Court in Lilongwe also ordered that the couple be kept in police custody until they are handed over to the authorities in South Africa.
The couple has however planned to appeal the ruling their legal representative has allegedly lodged an application for them to be released on bail.
The couple’s escape from South Africa was widely speculated that they used President Lazarus Chakwera’s presidential plane to flee after his official visit in the country.
The couple is facing multiple charges, including fraud, rape, and bail-jumping.
