Following an almost three weeks long detention behind bars while awaiting bail application to be granted, self-proclaimed prophet Sheppard Bushuri was finally given a bail together with his co-accused including his wife Mary by the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Bushiri and his wife were both given R 200K bail each while the other accused were given bail ranging from R 20K to R 100K after spending two consecutive weekends at Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Facility.

However, the Bushiri’s bail application also came with a hefty price where their lawyers were given until the end of business day on Thursday to hand over the title deeds to the couple’s primary property as part of their bail conditions, failure to do so the couple would be arrested again and forfeit their bail money.

Magistrate Thandi Theledi also heard during arguments that they had attempted to sell their properties and cars before, to evade the trial.

It was also heard that Bushiri had allegedly tried to intimidate witnesses and also bride them with R 500K, Magistrate ordered them to refrain from doing such.

“In your preaching on any platform to congregants as well as followers, you are barred from making any threats towards the State witnesses, the members of the prosecuting team and the members of the investigative team” she said.
