Giving reply of memorandum or service delivery to Katjibane residents earlier today Executive Mayor of Dr J.S Moroka Cllr Madileng pleaded with the community members not to destroy any property to voice out their frustrations.
“Give me space to do my job, I am your leader and you gave me your vote because you trust me, I will never fail you. All those complaints you have will be attended to” said Mayor Madileng.
The protest in Katjibane started last week Wednesday where all roads going in and out of Katjibane were blocked, learners taken out of school and a complete shutdown of Katjibane. Mayor Madileng said that some of the demands community members mentioned on the memorandum will only be attended to in the next coming budget, the municipality doesn’t have money now. He also said that some projects are due to start anytime from now and he pleaded with the members not interfere with the projects.
“I was supposed to come here tomorrow with a reply because there are some other par-ty issues that need to be attended to today, but I decided to come after receiving a call from the chief pleading with me to attend to this matter urgently. I also want to tell you that I will be here on Saturday to celebrate heritage day and I want to bring investors to this com-munity so we can create jobs” said mayor.
Mayor Madileng also promised to deliver services to the community as they have asked and others will be prioritized in the next budget plan. Public Works representatives will start their evaluations on the road from Katjibane to Chester in September to check how busy the road is on a regular basis, how cars use the road and give mayor the report in December and hey will take it from there.
Mandla pleaded with Public Works to not use technology in this road and do it the usual way so they can hire people from Katjibane who are not working at the moment. When residents raised an issue about their own nurses from Katjibane not being hired in the clinic Department of Health representative advised them to look for posts on City Press and apply whenever they are able.
