One of the recovering drug addicts who was given a platform to speak his mind and his experience during the time he was into drugs Moleseng Mojela from Pankop said he is not proud of the trauma he put his mother and the whole community through.

“I smoked drugs for 21 years of my life without any remorse because I thought that was the life to live, nut I am not proud. I want to apologize to all those who had to witness all the heartache and pain I put them through more especially my mother” said Mojela.

Mr Mojela said he used to sleep on the streets of Hammanskraal and anywhere else he can just lay his head. He said it is because of peer pressure that he got hooked up in this lifestyle and he thought he was trying to fit in as some of his friends tried to single him out be-cause he didn’t want to get hooked. Most addicts start by smoking cigarette, later move on to smoking dagga and as soon as their body gets used to the drug they later move on to much stronger substances.

That is where Mojela said he started not knowing that he will later on get addicted.

“People who got me hooked up into these drugs used to take care of me, they bought me everything I ever asked for any-time that is how they recruit people unfortunately. Until the day they stopped doing things for me that is when I realized that I am on my own now I have to look for ways to feed my demon, I started stealing whatever I could sell just to feed my selfish desire”.

He said as much as he takes full responsibility for his actions he also blame some of the parents in the community, knowing very well that would do any-thing for money they used to also send them to steal, something worth R 2000.00 they would sell it for R 200.00.

“Things got bad when I was wrongfully accused of stealing a police fire arm which I knew nothing about, and I can’t blame them for making me their number one suspect because of the wrong decisions I did. I ran away from home now Marabastad became my home until one day where I said enough is enough I am going back home I want to change”.

Fortunately the police fire arm that he was accused of stealing was found as he was coming back home, he said. Mr Mojela says he has been clean for 2 years and counting now and he is back in school now.

“Mmametlhake Social Development helped me a lot I wish they can continue to help more people, but I am just not satisfied with SAPS I don’t think they are doing enough to arrest these dealers”, he also said that he is now on the mission to helping people to stop using drugs.
