Poor decision making and maladministration in the Dr J.S Moroka Local Municipality which resulted in the municipality losing huge amounts of money following an irregular investment in the now defunct VBS bank, now has ordinary people paying for the consequences.

Residents in Phake Village not far from Hammaskraal, within the municipality have been left stranded with no reliable clean water and basic service delivery such as low-cost housing among others.

The municipality was put under administration by the province after a series of service delivery protests where residents and opposition parties accused the then mayor Thulare Madileng of being corrupt and turning a blind eye on corrupt activities within the municipality.

Residents in the said area, Phake told our contributor that they have been complaining about poor service delivery in their area for over ten years now and it seems as if their complaints are not taken serious by the municipality.

They say it is tough for some of them because they have to pay R 300.00 every month just to get clean water from the local people who make a living out of it.

One of the community members said that he doesn’t have any other choice because also the money he is using is supposed to be money for grocery because he is a pensioner and doesn’t have another source of income.

The municipality lost R 60million in the irregular VBS bank investment and has since been placed under administration.

Administrator could not comment on the matter.
