27 years old KZN serial rapist gets over 142 years behind bars

Mtunzini High Court has handed down six life terms plus almost a century and half to a serial rapist who was found guilty of multiple counts of rape committed in a space of between 4 years.

The 27 years old Lindokuhle Zungu learnt his fate on Friday when his sentencing was handed down.

NPA Spokesperson in the area Natasha Kara said that these cruel acts numerous women were committed between November 2014 and December 2018 where some unsuspecting victims would fall prey of Zungu.

“Zungu preyed on his victims and would break into their homes and threaten them with either a knife, firearm or bushknife. He robbed them of cash and/or cellphones and raped them before fleeing the scene. Some of his victims were raped in the presence of their children while one was pregnant.”

Kara also said that one of the victims fell prey to Zungu when he offered her a lift after find her on the road. That is when he later forced himself on the victim and left her helpless.

His raping spree ended in January 2019 after he was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Upon further investigations on him and buccal swaps, more criminal acts were found to have a link to him.

As a result he was taken into police custody.

He was found guilty of multiple counts of rape, housebreaking with intent to commit rape and robberies he committed in Nongoma and Mlazi. He was also convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

He was given six life terms plus 142 years of imprisonment.
