Another Eastern Cape who found herself on the wrong side of the law fortunately got released following a public outcry which was also joined by several political parties and senior government official.
The 44 years old woman who cannot be named due to the nature of the case was arrested on murder charges after allegedly beating a 65 years old man together with the community to death for allegedly raping her disabled daughter.
With Eastern Cape Social Development MEC Bukiwe Fanta leading the call and joining the public outcry, the woman received an overwhelming support as she was appearing in court. Fanta described the woman’s actions as a “desperate attempt to protect her child from a violent predator”.
She also added that she intends on writing to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to request that the matter withdrawn against the mother who was released on R 500.00 bail following short court appearance.
NPA spokesperson Luxolo Tyali said the case has been referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for further investigation after the woman’s claim that she was acting in defence of her daughter.
Reports say that the mother had gone to the said man’s place of residence where she found the man and her daughter both getting dressed. Her daughter is alleged to have pointed to her private part when the mother asked her what had happened. The woman allegedly started attacking the man and was joined by other residents.
The alleged rapist was beaten to death and the woman was arrested.
A similar matter occurred in 2017 in the same province where a mother also found herself having to take matters out of her hands by killing the man alleged to have raped her daughter and later on had murder charges withdrawn against her.
