Quality assurance council Umalusi said although they are disappointed by the court judgement on the mathematics paper 2 and physical sciences paper 2 rewrite, they respect the court’s decision and will abide by it.

This follows a judgement made by the high court in Tshwane earlier today which said that the decision by Umalusi and Department of Basic Education to have grade 12 learners rewrite their exams is irregular and unlawful.

“In the meantime we will continue to support and work in collaboration with relevant structures in the ongoing investigations in the leakage of the two papers” said Umalusi.

They added that they cannot preempt the outcomes of its own processes regarding the approval of the 2020 National Senior Certificate (NSC) results because the council needs to implement all its quality assurance processes before a final decision about the credibility and integrity of national examinations can be made.
