Justice and Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola says he is proud of the performance of the 2020 inmate matric results having hit one of the most record high percentages.
Minister Lamola read out congratulatory messages to the candidates nationally at the Leeuwkop Correctional service Centre on Thursday following the release of the results on Tuesday.
The inmates managed to overcome the challenge that was brought by the Covid-19 pandemic and out-performed candidates who were outside.

“For the 2020 academic year, (Department of correctional Services) DCS full time learners achieved a pass rate of 86.3%. When inclusive of part-time learners, DCS is standing at 81.3% pass rate. This is higher than the national average of 76.2%, it is also higher than the highest provincial percentage of 85.1% attained by the Free State” said the Minister.
