Court appearance today of a 37 years old Metro Police Constable together with his two accomplices, 33 and 34 years old after being found in possession of unlicensed firearms and signal jamming devices.

The trio was arrested early afternoon hours of August 02, 2023 on the N4 around Phola, in Ogies between the Petro Port and Arbor off-ramp.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said that a Flying Squad team was patrolling when they noticed a suspicious looking white Toyota Corolla fitted with Gauteng registration plates parked at a strategic position.

“Members approached the vehicle for investigation, that is when a male person wearing Tshwane Metro Police uniform, armed with a side firearm alighted from the vehicle.”

“He allegedly introduced himself as a Constable from Tshwane Metro. Police then ordered the other occupants to alight from the vehicle, that is when the driver who was in civilian clothing alighted also armed with a handgun.”

Mohlala added that another person alighted also wearing Tshwane Metro uniform but said he was borrowed the uniform.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the car the trio were using, was a vehicle stolen at Daveyton.

“Police further recovered two Network jamming devices, an eight channel as well as 20 channel jammers.”

It is said that the trio together with another vehicle that was parked a distance away from the trio were allegedly planning to hijack a truck carrying stock.
