Gauteng Health Department has made an announcement that some sections of Charlotte Maxeke Hospital are set to be reopened in May 3rd.
This follows a traumatic scene a week ago where the hospital was partly brought down to ashes after a fire broke out from a storage facility.
The fire is said to have destroyed both medical equipment and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) amounting to R 40million.
Gauteng Premier David Makhura had initially made an announcement during a press briefing at the time of the fire that the facility would only be closed for seven (7) days.
But Gauteng government spokesperson Thabo Masebe said that it seems like there are some parts that were also badly affected and therefore they had to extend the closure for safety reasons.
He added that patients were transferred to the neighboring medical facilities.
