A service delivery protest for basic human right has led to community members being arrested for public violence.
While many citizens were enjoying their festive season and some heading to their various holiday destinations, Christiana community members in the North West were angry for lack of service delivery.
This saw them having to take their frustration to the streets to voice out their dissatisfaction and blocked roads.
“Police reports reveal that on 27 December 2022, a group of community members from Christiana, blocked the Christiana Jan Kempdorp road with stones and burning tyres, in what was alleged to be a service delivery protest.”
This is according to NPA Spokesperson Henry Mamothame who said that the community members subsequently moved to the N12 road and blocked it with stones and burning tyres.
The said suspects were later arrested on December 29 following further investigations by the police.
These four suspects aged between 21 and 41 were charged with public violence and granted R500 bail each after making an appearance at Christiana Magistrates’ Court.
They will be back in court on February 23.
