NPA has secured a successful conviction of a man who was found guilty of defrauding Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality a sum of over R1milliion just ten years ago.
The 47 years Kealeboga Mongae was a liaison officer for Born Free Investments (Pty) LTD, Lesedisedi and Lebogangkatlego Joint Venture and private companies when he defrauded the municipality by collecting two cheques from them for a service he did not render.

NPA Spokesperson in the Henry Mamothame said that Mongae then came back later in false pretenses of collecting the said checks for the service providers but instead took the checks for his own personal use.

He was requested to reimburse the service providers with the money he defrauded them in 29 April 2021 before making a court appearance, to which he failed and later on released on R 20 000.00 bail.

Appearing before Magistrate James Mothibi in Zeerust Regional Court, he alluded to the rifeness of fraud in the country and found that a wholly suspended sentence to give him a further chance to repay the money after he failed to do so in nine years, will not send a clear message to communities that courts take the commissioning of fraud seriously.

He was then sentenced to six (6) years of direct imprisonment for the crime.
