SAPS employee arrested after bribing senior official for a promotion

Mokwape Bettie Malatji who serves as an admin clerk stationed at Ritavi Police Station could be jobless after being served with a suspension note on corruption allegations.

It is said according to Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, Limpopo Police Spokesperson that the said 50 years old suspect wanted to pay her way up for a promotion after offering a R 5000.00 bribe so she could be a preferred candidate on recently advertised posts.

Brigadier also added that the suspect allegedly drove all the way from Mopani District to Mankweng on Saturday, 10 October 2020 to hand over the R5000.00 where she was immediately arrested.

“The case was transferred to the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit” said Brigadier.

The alleged bribe was arranged with Major General attached to the Provincial Office where she serves as the Deputy Provincial Commissioner who then flagged the officials and staged the exchange.

Provincial Police Commissioner Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba applauded the General.

“The decisive actions that were taken by the General are highly commendable. Corruption committed by any employee of the South African Police Service at any level, requires an immediate and decisive action against the perpetrators as it has a potential of causing reputational damage to the entire Police Service if left unattended,” said General Ledwaba.

The suspect was released on R 1000.00 bail and set to appear again on 18 November 2020 for further police investigations.
