The Premier Soccer League (PSL) is set to pay tribute to veteran journalist and anti-apartheid activist Peter Magubane who passed away earlier this week two weeks before his 92nd birthday.
PSL Chairman Dr Irvvin Khoza sent the heartfelt condolences to the family and friends.
“Dr. Magubane, of the same generation as Alf Khumalo and Moffat Zungu, possessed distinctive attributes, notably his extensive collection of Ndebele artifacts, showcasing his multifaceted capabilities. While predominantly focusing on a diverse array of societal subjects through his photography, he also dedicated time to cover football whenever the opportunity arose. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family for the loss of this great giant,” remarked PSL Chairman, Dr. Irvin Khoza.
In recognition of Dr. Magubane’s substantial contributions, a moment of silence will be observed at this weekend’s Carling Cup match.
Magubane is recognized as one of the people who played a role in exposing the cruelties of apartheid towards African people. He also took one of the iconic photos of Mama Winnie Mandela and the 1976 uproar.
He was also Nelson Mandela’s personal photographer.
