Premier Mtsweni-Tsipane admits guilt and donates 1000 masks to raise Covid-19 awareness

Mpumalanga Premier Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane says she has noticed several social media reports and video showing her without a mask as stipulated under adjusted level 3 lockdown which requires each and every person to wear a mask in public.

Premier Tsipane said this in a statement released by her office late Monday afternoon, almost 24 hours later following a backlash and a demand for arrest.

She also apologised to President Ramaphosa, Deputy President Mabuza and the whole country.

“I should have known better as a public figure and more attending a Covid-19 funeral.”

“To this effect I have deposited a statement of built at the Vosman Police Station in Emalahleni and I accepted the necessary fine.”

“To further demonstrate my remorse I have bought 1000 masks that will be distributed in Emalahleni as part of public education and awareness to demonstrate the serious nature of Covid-19.”

She concluded that she has taken a decision to go under 14 days isolation.
