Police launch manhunt for suspect known as MmaThato after an 80 years old woman found dead in a fridge

The police in Mpumalanga have launched a manhunt following the discovery of an 80-year-old woman’s body stashed in a freezer at Pankop on Monday, 12 October 2020.

On Monday Page3 reported about a 10 years old boy who discovered a body of his grandmother who was strangled to death and forced into a fridge.

The police have now confirmed that the suspect is a Lesotho national who was hired to take care of the deceased. She was known by the family as Mmathato.

Mpumalanga Police Spokesperson Col Donald Mdhluli said that neighbours became suspicious during their search with the boy when they noticed a coffee table, gas stove and a TV set placed on top of the freezer. 

Upon investigation, they then discovered the lifeless body into the fridge.

The police as well as medical personnel were summoned where the victim was certified dead at the scene. The police opened a case of murder hence the manhunt.

“The police appeal to the woman named MmaThato to immediately go to the nearest police station as they (police) believe that she can assist immensely in the investigation.”
