Having not heard of any illegal or irregular incidents in the 2024 matric exams, North West Education MEC Viola Motsumi has applauded both the candidates and teachers their resilience and discipline. In the same breath, she pleaded with the candidates to not get swayed into wrong things this coming festive season.

The intense six weeks long exam ended with the Computer Applied Technology (CAT) practical exam, which was written on Thursday 28 November 2024 marking the end of a significant chapter in the lives of these young individuals.

“The matric class of 2024 has shown incredible discipline and respect for the examination process. These qualities reflect not only their dedication over the past 13 years but also their readiness to step into the next stage of their lives. I urge our learners to celebrate responsibly and honour the hard work they have invested in reaching this milestone.”

“As you celebrate this milestone, it is crucial that you do not allow a moment of celebration to undo the good name you have built over the years. As you leave the basic education sector, carry yourselves with the same dignity and decorum that have defined your journey thus far. Do not ruin your good names at this critical time, “ urges Motsumi.

Marking of the papers in the province is set to commence on November 30th after a 15hour training on the 29th across 17 designated centres. She also recognized a role played by the support structures as well in the form of School Governing Body (SGBs) local business sectors.

“I wish to take this time to greatly thank our teachers, parents, SGBs, business sector, civil society and education stakeholders who have been with our candidates from the moment we launched the last push campaign declaring community involvement up to the last incubation camp that hosted candidates. You exemplified what societal involvement means in the future of our learners, your children”, adds Motsumi.
