Having obtained a little over 80% pass rate in the 2023 matric results, North West Education MEC Ntsetsao Viola Motsumi said more needs to be done to improve the province’s performance.
MEC Motsumi said this in her first meeting with the Departmental Senior Managers at Seasons Conference Centre in Mafikeng on Thursday since being re-elected to the post.
The meeting was to evaluate the department’s achievements and address areas facing challenges.
She emphasized the need for proper coordination of activities between the Province and the Districts.
“Firstly, there should be a proper coordination of activities between the Province and the Districts. There should not be any gap that exists between these two spheres of government.”
“I want to emphasize that there will be zero tolerance to poor performance at all. We need to be among the top three best-performing provinces at the end of the academic year”, Motsumi expressed.
She said managers should manage leave properly as this underscores proper governance and delivering excellent quality education. Regarding learner attainment, schools should start now to provide the department with information on learners who are going to start schooling next year.
“This helps to order Learner Teacher Support Material ( LTSM) on time for the next academic year.”
