Mpumalanga Education MEC Ms Cathy Dlamini has called for the immediate suspension of a hostel superintendent at a boarding school following allegations of having invited members from the Community Policing Forum to whip learners from Shongwe Boarding School.

In the same line, she has also called for an investigation to be conducted to get precise details and further determine possible plan of action.

The incident is said to have occurred on Tuesday, November 26th.

“Disciplinary proceedings will be instituted on this matter and the hostel superintendent will be placed on suspension with immediate effect while the department continues with its investigation into the matter.”

“As part of the investigation, the department will also look into the school’s code of conduct which should be developed inline with the South African School Act 84 of 1996 as a tool to promote disciplined and responsible behaviour, coupled with an understanding of and respect for the rights of learners and staff members at the school.”

She added that the Department will also deploy officials from inclusive education and wellness section to render psychosocial support to the affected learners.
