NICD confirms just over 24K new Covid-19 cases, highest since January

SA seems to be fighting a losing battle against Covid-19 as the Health Ministry records highest ever daily cases of 24,270 new cases recorded in 24 hours.
This is said to be the highest ever since January.
The number now brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2,019,826. This increase represents a 27.4% positivity rate. As per the National Department of Health, a further 303 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 61,332 to date.
NICD said that 13,298,239 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors as per the table below.

PROVINCIAL BREAKDOWN
The Gauteng province accounts for the majority of new cases (59%), followed by the Western Cape (11%), North West and KwaZulu-Natal (7% each) provinces. The following table shows the total number of cases per province:
