South African Police Services (SAPS) have confirmed that national police commissioner General Khehla John Sitole has learnt that he is now Covid-19 positive.

This is after he came into close contact with a member who tested positive of the virus.

This is according to SAPS who also said that General Sitole is not showing any signs or symptoms of the virus at this stage.

In the meantime, Lieutenant General Sindile Mfazi has been appointed to act as the National Commissioner until further notice.

“I have undergone various other tests as well and my doctor is satisfied that it is not necessary for me to be hospitalised, instead he has prescribed certain vitamins and ordered that I immediately self-isolate for at least a period of 10 days”, said General Sitole.

General Sitole has, since learning about his Covid-19 status, immediately gone into self-isolation and he is self-medicating.
